Reading Marked Codes on Surgical Instruments

Our Company Matrix Marking was formed in 1992, by Dr Douglas Telford, a phD Metallurgist with experience in the Defence and Laser industries at board level. Our expertise is the creation and installation of auto-ID systems to meet a number of complex needs. We have specfic experience in surgical instrument tracking, where our systems have been in daily use for five years. We also have significant experience in the application of the Data Matrix code. More recently the company has broadened its approach and is able to offer the DMT code. We are members of the Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI) and Douglas Telford is a member of the Surgical Instrument Tracking Working Party. Matrix Marking received a SMART 1 award in 1994 and a SMART 2 award in 1995, resulting in the development of a Surgical Instrument Reader. The experience gained has led to a further award in 2000 for the development of a technique to read dot peened codes in particularly demanding applications. We are located in rural Lincolnshire, in a purpose built office and technical workshop with excellent access to the major industrial centres.
